An equine-supported program building strength, confidence and connection after service.
Solid Ground is a pilot program being developed by Equilus in collaboration with veteran-sector organisations. The program brings together Equilus’ expertise in equine-supported services with the knowledge and experience of organisations working with veterans, to create a practical, strengths-based approach that supports connection, confidence and wellbeing during and beyond the transition from service.

People transitioning from service or adjusting to life beyond service
Veterans who may benefit from practical, strengths-based support

Why Horses
Horses provide immediate, practical opportunities to develop communication, awareness, confidence, emotional regulation, and problem-solving. Working with a horse asks participants to be present, observant, and responsive - building skills, confidence and trust through genuine connection and shared experience, rather than simply talking about them.
Horses have long played a role in supporting veterans through recovery and rehabilitation following military service. Solid Ground builds on this connection, using the experience of working with horses to create a safe and purposeful space where veterans can reconnect, rebuild confidence, and support their wellbeing.
The Solid Ground program aims to provide:

Co-designed with the veteran community
Solid Ground is being co-designed by Equilus in partnership with organisations with expertise in veteran wellbeing and support, including the Defence Force Welfare Association SA; Veteran Wellbeing Centre; and RSL.
About Equilus
Equilus brings more than 50 years of experience in equine-supported service delivery, combining strong organisational foundations and experienced program design with a deep understanding of the unique connection between people and horses. This experience, along with a qualified and committed team, enables us to create safe, structured and genuinely meaningful experiences that build confidence, connection, and a sense of achievement.
Where it will be delivered
The Solid Ground pilot will be delivered at Equilus' O'Halloran Hill and Jennibrook Farm (Woodcroft) Centres.
